B/A's 50th anniversary year was marked by the acquisition of the Canadian Gulf Oil Company from the parent Gulf Company for 8.3 million common shares of B/A and the B/A producing company in the U.S.

B/A's 50th Anniversary year was marked by acquisition of Canadian Gulf Oil Company.


Prior to this, Gulf had held 25% of the B/A shares. B/A had now increased its land holdings in western Canada from 1 million to 11 million acres, increased its crude reserves by 10 times, and it made B/A the largest holder of natural gas reserves in Canada. Although the above transaction gave the appearance that B/A had taken over a subsidiary of a foreign company, in fact, a foreign company had gained control of B/A.
